With our friend Dean Cloutier, we created a tessellated wall collage for the first station of TransLink's new Millenium Line extension: Lafarge Lake - Douglas. The historical and contemporary imagery celebrates the diversity and vitality of Coquitlam. We're honoured to be a part of the daily commute for so many.
Floating Tiles
Using a special type of pentagonal tessellation, we could use a single shape of block to create an organic tile pattern. We mounted each block on a riser of various heights to give the surface some texture and topography. The clustered tiles were mounted to plywood backers, and hung off the wall using french cleats. The effect: a wood and laser-etched collage that seems to float overhead.
